Little Treasures Childcare and Family Center is a nonprofit childcare center that houses our area’s most unique child and family care program for children ages six weeks through the first day of kindergarten.
We serve families who have extra stress factors in their life—
- single parents
- teen parents
- families experiencing homelessness
- people living in poverty
- people struggling with substance abuse or neglect issues
- people dealing with isolation
- people pursuing an education
- caregivers working toward self-sufficiency
What We Know
There are some basic facts that inform the work we do at Little Treasures.
- During the first three years of life, a child’s brain is building almost all of the synapses (neuron-connectors) he or she will use throughout life.
- Neurons and synapses are how our brains learn and process information.
- The brain “prunes” synapses and neurons based on which get “fired” the least during daily experiences.
- After age 7, it is nearly impossible to change a brain’s makeup.
This is why what a child experiences during his or her early years is so crucial.
